Career Academies

We are excited about the academy offerings available for our students at BHS/IB/SA! Taught by instructors who are passionate and knowledgeable in their subjects, our courses offer academic rigor, technical experiences, and business partnerships that work together to create the optimal learning environment for our students. At Bartow High, we offer our students options that will enable them, upon high school graduation, to choose community college, a four-year university, the military, or immediate entrance into a career. In our academy classes, students have the unique opportunity to be engaged in hands-on experiences that mirror the actual workplace, as well as earn industry certifications.

Culinary Academy

NCAC Model Academy

This a nationally accredited model academy, which provides the opportunity to learn culinary fundamentals in taste, presentation, and cooking techniques. It will allow for experience in the kitchen as well as all aspects of cost control, safety and sanitation, nutrition, and kitchen management. Working at a school-based catering/restaurant setting provides many learning opportunities. Students are involved in catering experiences in school and around the county, providing them with real-world experiences in the culinary industry.

Criminal Justice Academy

NCAC Certified Academy

The Criminal Justice Academy is a multi-year program. Upon graduation, students will have the necessary skills and certifications for employment or continued education in the criminal justice industry. Students will explore academic and career information in law enforcement, courts and corrections. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to take part in mock trials and police explorer programs. The academy includes a program of study focused on criminal justice operation and 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch.

Bartow Medical and Fire Academy

NCAC Model Academy

This academy is where learners embark on a medical or firefighting pathway. The academy program of study offers the following courses: Medical Skills, Health Science Anatomy, Health Science Foundations, Emergency Medical Responder, Electrocardiograph Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant and Principles of Public Service.

The Fire Academy program students will learn about fire service and skills within the career industry. Fire Academy program completers must successfully complete: EMR, live fire burns, wildland fire S130/S190, all exams, skills, and the state firefighter task book with a passing score.

Future Educators Academy

NCAC Model Academy

The Future Educators Academy is a program designed for students who are interested in a career as an educator. The pathway prepares students for a wide range of careers in education including paraprofessionals and classroom teachers. FEA students can participate in hands-on teacher assisting at BHS, IB, SA as well as Bartow Middle School, Floral Avenue, Jean O’Dell Learning Center and Bartow Elementary Academy.

Students may also participate in the ELITE program, which allows them to work toward a degree in education with Polk State College while they are still enrolled in High School.

ACE Academy

NCAC Certified Academy

The Bartow Academy of Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) focuses its educational efforts on the labor force of construction-related industries in and around Polk County. Currently, the academy has three tracks to prepare students for entry-level employment or advanced training in the construction and manufacturing trades. Students are encouraged, but not required, to take courses in multiple programs of study when their schedules allow for a broader understanding of the interconnectivity between the three tracks Architectural Drafting, Construction, and Electrical Engineering.

iGrow Academy

The iGrow Agriculture Academy helps students develop competencies in numerous agricultural areas. Students are introduced to concepts demonstrating the diversity and importance in Florida. This includes areas such as: horticulture, animal husbandry, forestry, agritechnology, and agribusiness. Students will gain an understanding of the environmental principles that govern our natural resources and be exposed to career opportunities in agricultural business and technology.

Students have an opportunity to participate in Dual Enrollment studies through Warner University.

Academy of Design

Academy of Design students have the opportunity to choose between several pathways: Digital Design and Digital Multimedia and Sports Marketing. Students may earn weighted credit for honors courses and industry certifications in Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Illustrator, Animate, Social Media Strategist and more! 

In our state-of-the-art computer labs students receive hands on learning experiences that prepare them for post-secondary education or career paths in Photography, Cinematography, and Graphic Design.
